i3S – Instituto de Investigação e Inovação e Saúde, Universidade do Porto, Porto, Portugal, Portugal
Having graduated from the University of Porto in Biochemistry in 2018, I obtained a Master's degree in Biochemistry from the same university 2 years later. My thesis focused on tackling the emerging infections caused by Mycobacterium avium using antimicrobial peptides as new alternatives to the used antibiotics. Afterwards, I undertook an ERASMUS+ internship at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain. I am now enrolled in the BiotechHealth PhD programme from ICBAS, working at i3S and UCIBIO under the supervision of Tânia Silva, Sérgio Sousa and Salomé Gomes. My project is based on the discovery of new antimycobacterial peptides against both M. avium and M. abscessus using newly built QSAR models, for which I have designed and optimised a high-throughput screening assay. Recently, I won the 3MT competition, where I explained my 4-year project in under 3 minutes without using any scientific jargon, with a single static slide.
